The sweetness of peaches is a gift like no other. As they ripen at our cottage, the experience is almost spiritual. That first bite of the season is pure magic, with juice dripping down my chin in a delicious, sweet mess. Peaches have a rich history, dating back 5,000 years to China, and their journey to the Americas in the 1500s is a testament to their enduring appeal.

As one of my favorite fruits, tied with cherries, I'm grateful to have a small orchard on our farm.  We are up to 12 trees and that number has been growing annually. Not only are peaches a tasty treat, but they're also packed with vitamins A and C, fiber, and antioxidants. To eat a peach is an experience- it's an explosion offlavors!  It is that low, under breath moan when you take your first bite.   

Our annual Mother's Day gathering at The Island  is upon us and always includes fresh peaches, a tradition we've enjoyed for 24 years. Our entire family gathers to celebrate the women in our family.  This year's peach crop is especially noteworthy, and It is an honor to share my own homegrown peaches with our family this year.
